Too Hot or Too Lazy

Reasons I didn’t post my trip recap and photos yet
  • It’s been really hot here in LA – and my computer keeps spontaneously shutting it’s self down. (It’s reading 127F right now)
  • All my trip photos are on my work laptop – back at my office.
  • My internet connection usually sucks in my office and drops out as soon as I try to drop in photos.
  • I just ate dinner and I’m sleepy.

Maybe better luck tomorrow.

Happy Birthday Andy!

Back in LA

I love the challenge of packing way too much stuff into a way too small suitcase.

I love getting on planes.

I love being in a new place, not knowing the language and figuring out how to get around.

I love layovers in airports and the crazy sub-culture that exists in airports.

I even love turbulence and how bad airplane food can be.

But more than all of this – I love being home.

After 2 weeks in South America, I’m back home with Jess and the doggies and i’m so content. Even doing the mundane task of laundry is fun ( but i’m sure that won’t last ).

I’m going to post recaps from the trip to Brazil and Argentina this weekend – I took many photos which i’ll have on Flicker – but two favorite highlights, which i’ll go into more detail on both came out of Brazil. One was spending a magical day on foot walking around the neighborhood of St.Teresa in Rio and the other was getting to paint out an alley with a group of well known local graffiti artists and their apprentices in San Paulo – more on these and all the other crazy things I saw and did very soon.

Sao Paulo

At a glance…

It’s pretty gray and rainy here right now – but still lush and beautiful.  There’s something very familiar about the architecture and foliage – maybe a bit like Indonesia/Malaysia…

The night ended at the trendy Skye Bar & Restaurant here at the hotel – there wasn’t alot of food to go around but plenty of Caipirinhas…so sorry for the typos up front.

A quick street shot -there are plastic surgeon offices in practically every other building on this block, as well as several private hospitals…

The park by the hotel – where MAM, the Modern Art Museum is.  We spent a bit of time checking out the art during the afternoon.

An outside shot of the hotel – pretty cool.

Brazil

Made it to Sao Paulo

Heres a quick post on the hotel we’re in – the Hotel Unique. Some of you might recognize it from the 9th season of Amazing Race.

A Few More Shots of Kauai

Big Backpedal

A month a go….

Rob was here for a quick visit on his way to San Diego for work.  Here he is enjoying the evil but delicious “blonde bunny”.

Here’s a little house update from last month too – some guys showed up and cleared out all the brush in our “backyard”.  I guess it becomes quite the fire hazard as we get closer to summer – and if this weekend is any indication of what’s to come , this was a good call.   We were hovering around 96 all weekend and in the room where my G4 is it was much hotter.  In fact so hot that my computer chose to shut its self down in protest to the heat.  It’s much cooler today, but the CPU still reads an internal temp. of 140F – ouch.

Malasada Bootie Call

Finding Hawaiian Donuts in LA

After a very nice japanese dinner at Koda on Sunset last night – I still needed a little something that Gelato just couldn’t satisfy.  We we’re almost home when I had a craving for a Malasada – maybe because it was a hot steamy night and felt a bit like being in Hawaii or because eating something light and healthy like seaweed makes your body crave sugar and fat almost immediately – regardless, I needed a Malasada.

Jesse in his incredible way, quickly googled it and discovered that there was in fact a place that made them and it was pretty close by. L&L Hawaiian Barbecue has opened a location in Glendale and sure enough they make the donuts.  It’s no Leonard‘s but when you have a craving for something, sometimes a rough version does the trick.

I only ate 3 but the others are sitting on the counter telling me that they’d taste great with my coffee this morning – even if they’re a little stale and cold.  I’m trying not to listen to them.

Melt the Vote

April is Grilled Cheese Month!!

And it’s already half way over!!! Hurry up and eat a Grilled Cheese!

And one awesome restaurant here in LA, Clementine, has elevated the glorious sandwich to other worldly heights. They’ve also set up the awesomely funny Melt the Vote campaign – where they created an entire voters ballet for cheese initiatives ( I especially like the “legalize cheese consumption for vegans”).

I think I know what my first lunch is going to be when I get back from South America…..yummmy!

More of Kauai

Heres a few shots from the first day there….

I know I was going to go backwards….but i guess I’m not.

Here’s Dad with Little Oskar – he had the magic touch when Ossie was fussy, he’d get in Dad’s arms and just relax – it was pretty amazing.

Jesse getting to know little Ossie (and discovering how strong he is)

Andy & Dad at the BBQ

A little someone who thought he might like to jump on the hot BBQ – not such a good idea.

Watching the sunset over the Ocean

Our first sunset in Kauai

And of course we had to bring a puzzle – it became a bit of an obsession for us as the week went on.
