Awesome Friday Night
Hellboy & Pinks
Jess and I met up right after work to catch an early showing of Hellboy 2. It was completely fun and entertaining and makes me want an HB3 for sure. Afterwards I was feeling peckish – the fruit cup and soy yogurt i smuggled into the theater (oh and half of J’s popcorn) just didn’t cut it. I had longing looked at the icky hot dogs at the concession counter and then right outside the theater was a hot dog kiosk – but neither had a veggie option so i was about to settle on some sub-standard pizza when J said – lets go to Pinks!
Even after all our visits to LA and almost a year of living here now, I still hadn’t experienced this iconic hot dog stand. Knowing they had a veggie dog option – i was in. We got there around 9:20 and the line was of course long – but the smell of buns, onions and (sad for a veggie to say) the sausages made the wait easier. It took us 45 minutes to get up to the front and I think I changed my mind 10-12 times before actually ordering. I went for the veg with raw onions, relish, mustard and am.cheese and J had the chili dog. The “making” only took approx 30 seconds for each dog so we were able to grab them, find a seat and cram them down.
So here’s the break down.
- 15 min drive
- 45 min line
- 30 sec prep
- 45 sec eating
And I have to say it was all worth it. I’m craving another hot dog right now.
Good thing they’re open until 3am tonight – I might need to go back.
